2014-2016

I was hired by the then incoming Dean, Amale Andraos, to be chiefly responsible for a complete strategic overhaul of the digital presence and visual culture of the school: ranging from a new website, digital publishing platform, social media presence, commissioning a visual identity, and in-school display systems. The express aim has been to structurally clarify the school’s various programs, research centers, cross-disciplinary activity, and student and faculty work in order to constantly reveal the school to itself as well as attract and maintain general public and industry attention.

Digital Strategy and Editorial implementation of a new website for the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University. The website emphasizes context and change over time. A navigable 3D earth shows GSAPP’s footprint around the world. Graphical devices use various drawing or mark-making languages, including isometric illustration, halftone patterns, and more.

The site was conceived as a “connection machine” and features databases of events, exhibitions, courses, student work, faculty, and more. Students, faculty, and staff can log in using Columbia’s central authentication system, acccomodating the needs of various stakeholders.
